2 billion people don’t have somewhere safe and hygienic to go to the toilet. (WHO/Unicef). For those displaced in emergency situations, there is often little access to proper toilet facilities. The lack of a basic toilet facility makes women and girls a target for sexual attack as they go to the toilet in the open, late at night. Every year, women and girls spend 97 billion hours finding a place to go. (World Bank)
Vita Sharks are proud to have commited to build, completed and installed the first latrine, a first of many to come, in line with thier service efforts for 2020.
This latrine will reduce the spread of disease and ensure hygenic facilities for large groups of people. It will provide safe and clean alternatives to the unsanitary communal toilet facilities available to people stuck in disaster zones. Almost 1,000 children die every day from preventable diseases linked to dirty water and unsafe toilets (UN). When we build a basic toilet, those people will have access to clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives.
